All Change at Binger - Screen International Interview
The annual
Binger - Screen International Interview at the
Netherlands Film Festival on
September 29 has a new Guest of Honour. Golden Bear winner Jasmila Zbanic was forced to cancel her travel to the interview this morning on doctors' orders.
A great replacement has been immediately put in place: This will be producer / director
Pieter Jan Brugge who will be visiting the festival from Los Angeles. Dutch-born Brugge left The Netherlands in the eighties to carve out a place in the Hollywood industry producing intelligent hit movies including
The Pelican Brief with Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington,
Heat with Robert de Niro and Al Pacino, and working with Pacino again on
The Insider. Most recently his long standing partnership with director Michael Mann delivered the box office hit
Miami Vice, starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx.
In 2003 Pieter Jan Brugge turned his hand to writing and directing with thriller
The Clearing starring Robert Redford, Helen Mirren and Willem Dafoe. The film, loosely based on the kidnapping of Dutch industrialist Gerrit Jan Hein, is the story of a successful businessman (Redford) who is abducted for ransom money and his wife (Mirren) who is desperately waiting at home for hopeful news.
I
nternational editor of Screen International Finn Halligan will talk with Brugge about his work, the differences between the creative and production arenas in Europe and the US and his passion for film both independent and mainstream. The interview will take place at
5 pm at Grand Hotel Karel V in Utrecht during the
Holland Film Meeting of the festival.
Jasmila Zbanic looks forward to attending the festival in the near future.
