Binger presents two new documentary initiatives: Doc Lab and DocuCoach: Heddy Honigmann
Doc LabApplication open now! Deadline March 1st, 2010This programme offers talented Documentary filmmakers coaching from fine-tuning the initial idea, through narrative development, the actual shooting, to the editing of their film and on towards festival platforming, marketing and release.
In approximately 18 months the project driven
Doc Lab focuses - in both residential workshops in Amsterdam, and flexible individual on-site mentoring by advisors such as
Jennifer Fox,
Molly Stensgaard and
John Appel - on creative development, production and post-production. Taking the changeable and volatile working practices of documentary filmmakers into consideration it offers flexible modules to allow different speeds of development and production.
Doc Lab is especially designed for filmmakers and projects that are innovative in their style and approach, have a social or cultural relevance and above all have a strong narrative drive and potential for theatrical release.
DocuCoach: Heddy HonigmannApplications January 2010Internationally acclaimed documentary filmmaker
Heddy Honigmann (amongst others;
O Amor Natural (1996),
Crazy (1999),
Forever (2006) and
El Olvido (2008)) will be Bingers first
DocuCoach. In February 2010 she will open her doors to give coaching on demand to talented and experienced Netherlands-based documentary filmmakers that show passion and urgency to make the film that will be discussed in the consultation.
In up to three coaching sessions filmmakers can discuss the project they are working on; from film idea to work in progress.
DocuCoach Heddy sees this as an exchange of experience and advice. She says about the projects she’s looking for:
“It’s 1965. French filmmaker Jean Rouch – godfather of the cinema vérité – follows an African tribe on a lion hunt. In the jungle they meet another tribe. The tribal chief points at Rouch who’s filming and says: “This is mister Rouch who’s hunting the lion with us."An old African proverb says: “The eye of the outsider sees only what he already knows”. As Bingers first DocuCoach I would like to welcome filmmakers who – just as Rouch- want to become insiders or those who already are.”
