Rialto & Binger Inspire: June 10, 2009
Inspiration - every filmmaker needs it. That sometimes elusive little seed that is necessary to grow into a brilliant idea. The spark to fire the beginning of any creative project. Where do filmmakers find their inspiration? What inspires them? And once an idea has taken hold, how is it then turned into a plan, and action?
For the second time this year Amsterdam film theatre Rialto and Binger Filmlab present an inspired evening's screening and conversation with international filmmakers developing their feature film projects in the Binger's Directors' Coaching Programme.
On June 10, Binger Filmlab artistic director Marten Rabarts will coax three filmmakers into sharing a few of their secrets about where they find inspiration. Nicholas Verso (Australia), Sacha Polak (Netherlands) and Adriana Montenegro (Bolivia) will each show one of their prizewinning short films, and by also showing excerpts from films or other art forms that inspired them, give some insight into the creative choices they made. The short films are respectively Hugo (2008, shown at festivals worldwide such as Chicago International Children's Film Festival, Cranberra Short Film Festival and won amongst others the Grand Prize of the Fantasy Film Festival Rhode Island en the Australian Writers Guild Award for Best Script), El Mourabbi (2007, script: Bastiaan Kroeger, was part of broadcasters NPS short film series Kort! and had it's premiere at the Netherlands Film Festival 2007. The film won the Prix Special Collégiens at the Festival Cinesonne in France) and Desde el Fondo (2008, that amongst others recently screened at the Latin American Film Festival of Catalunya and the Cine Iberoamericano de Huelva, both in Spain).
Inspiration Night is for film lovers, and anyone else curious about creativity. Audience discussion and interaction will be warmly encouraged.
