Body Rice by
Hugo Vieira da Silva will have its Dutch premiere in Rialto Theatre.
Body Rice was officially selected for numerous festivals worldwide amongst others the international film festivals of Locarno, Buenos Aires, Mexico and Rotterdam. The film won many prizes such as the Best Director Award in Buenos Aires and the Special Mention in Locarno.
Body Rice is about a group of young Germans who arrive in Portugal to be part of an experimental social reinsertion program for troubled youth. Starting out as a documentary project,
Body Rice morphed into a fiction film based on experiences of the people in this program. Hugo Vieira da Silva's contemplative gaze portrays a strange community that perpetuates pointless encounters and conversations, indolent walks and uncrowded raves of electric vitality. Between apathy and muffled surprise, between furious music and silence, continuously adrift, rather than apathetic, zombie-like young people, the main characters of
Body Rice are deprogrammed, dysfunctional robots.
Writer – director Vieira da Silva is currently following the
Script Development Programme at
Binger Filmlab with his latest project
Red Cross.
