Spike Lee’s editor Sam Pollard gives masterclass at Binger in March
Best known as a frequent collaborator of Spike Lee,
Sam Pollard edited many of his feature films, including
Jungle Fever,
Girl 6 and
Bamboozled as well as the prize-winning documentaries
4 Little Girls (nominated for an Oscar and an Emmy Award) and more recently
When the Leeves Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts about New Orleans after Katrina, which he also produced.
Sam Pollard’s professional accomplishments in the field of feature film, television and documentary span almost thirty years. From editing to producing and writing to directing, Pollard’s experience runs the moviemaking gamut—and that’s just the way he likes it. Though he originally gravitated toward the editing room, after a decade of cutting footage for other directors Pollard decided it was time to also move behind the camera. As an editor, Pollard is known for his strong ability to organize raw material – almost like a script writer – and talent to merge words and pictures into a story. As a filmmaker he has the urge to tell unconventional stories never avoiding controversy.
Pollard's inspiring
editing master class is intended for both
directors and
editors (or a team director / editor), who are currently working on a project (feature, short or documentary) or who just want to observe. Both telling about his own experiences as an editor and filmmaker as well as giving feedback on the projects, Pollard will give an insight on his ideas and views of filmmaking.
Dates: 12 through 14 March, 2007 / Application deadline 1 March, 2007
