Biography
He began a career in advertising in 1998, working for Young & Rubicam and McCann Erickson as creative director. Parallel to this, since 1997 he has wrote short films, winning several awards such as First Place at the IV National Short Film Screenplay Contest for The Miracle, and the Ariel of the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences for Best Short Film in 2004 for Los No Invitados (The Non-Invited).
With his first Feature Film, Párpados Azules (Blue Eyelids), he won the best Iberoamerican Script Award at the XXII Guadalajara Film Festival. This film has participated at the 46th International Critic´s Week at the 60th Cannes Film Festival, the Official Competition for the 20th Tokyo International Film Festival among others, winning a special Mention at Latin Horizons Section of the San Sebastian Film Festival 2007.
Párpados Azules was selected for the World Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival 2008, where it won a Jury Special Award. Finally, on March 2008, the movie won the Ariel of the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences for Best First Work.
In June 2008 his new project I Dream in Another Language (formerly known as On Speaking Terms, Revolver Media Productions) got the Rotterdam Film Fund, being the first time a Mexican achieves this important support.
I Dream in Another Language was selected for the Sundance Lab January 2009 and in May this same year the project got the MEDIA European Film Fund.
